ENDANGERED BLUE WHALES SPOTTED OFF LONG BEACH IDENTIFIED BY THE AQUARIUM’S RESEARCH PROGRAM



The largest animal on the planet—the endangered blue whale--has been spotted in the waters off Long Beach along with humpback and fin whales.  Learn about recent whale sightings and conservation issues. After the cruise, attendees are welcome to visit the Aquarium and the new Pacific Visions wing. 

This award-winning glass building features an immersive art gallery, state-of-the-art multisensory theater, and an exhibit gallery featuring digital games and live animal exhibits. It allows visitors of all ages to explore our ocean planet in new and engaging ways and to see all our animals in a new light. 

 Endangered blue whales and fin whales are the largest whales on the planet and are being spotted in the waters off Long Beach. 

Experts from the Aquarium’s blue whale photo ID program will discuss recent findings about Southern California’s endangered blue whale population and reveal how we can identify individual whales spotted in local urban waters. Blue whales are the largest animal on the planet and frequent Southern California’s urban ocean during the summer—a busy and bustling place used intensely by both people and wildlife.
